The ex-spouses are in the middle of a legal battle after Angelina Jolie decided to sell her shares in the former couple’s French winery.
A divorce that keeps ink flowing. According to court documents filed Tuesday in a lawsuit between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, the American actress accused her ex-husband Brad Pitt of being violent towards her and her children during a private flight connecting France with California in 2016 .
The former couple, who separated in the same year, are currently torn over the Château de Miraval winery. Last February, Brad Pitt launched a court case against his ex-girlfriend, alleging that she had broken an agreement they had reached by which neither spouse could sell their shares in the vineyard without notifying her.
“Too respectful” of children
In his counterclaim on Tuesday, revealed by the New York Times, Angelina Jolie claimed the sale of her shares was motivated by her embarrassment at participating in a liquor store with Brad Pitt, who is “known for his alcohol addiction problems”. In the same document, she gave new details about the incident, which is said to have happened during a private jet flight in September 2016.
The argument began on the plane when Brad Pitt accused Angelina Jolie of being “too respectful” of her children.
Brad Pitt grabbed Angelina Jolie by the head and shook her, then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pinning her against the bathroom wall. (…) Brad Pitt then repeatedly struck the ceiling of the plane and ordered Angelina Jolie out of the bathroom,” the lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, reads.
These facts were mentioned in the American press back in 2016, and then again last August when many American media outlets published documents related to the FBI investigation at the time. But the complaint filed by Angelina Jolie on Tuesday reveals that Brad Pitt was also violent towards the couple’s children.
When one of them tried to intervene during the argument on the plane, Brad Pitt allegedly strangled him and punched another in the face. The actor ended up pouring beer on Angelina Jolie, as well as wine and beer on the kids.
Despite an FBI investigation, no complaints were filed at the time
A few weeks after the incident, Angelina Jolie officially filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. Since the incident occurred in the air, the American federal judiciary was tasked with investigating. The filings submitted by Angelina Jolie allege that the investigator in charge of the case concluded that the federal government had an opportunity to indict Brad Pitt on these facts. However, the actor has not been charged.
In 2016, Angelina Jolie was reportedly reluctant to pursue the lawsuits against her ex-husband for fear of exposing her children. But according to the actress’ lawyers, Brad Pitt’s recent desire to prevent his ex-wife from selling off her shares in the vineyard according to her will would have forced him to speak out about the violence she is said to have endured.
Angelina Jolie’s lawyers have revealed that efforts between the two actors to reach an agreement on the French winery also fell through after Brad Pitt asked Angelina Jolie to sign a “non-disclosure agreement” that would have been contractually prohibited to speak out of court about Pitt’s physical and emotional abuse of her and her children.”
