We know more about Angelina Jolie’s allegations. The American actress claims that her ex-husband Brad Pitt abused two of their children during a dispute between the couple on a private jet in 2016, according to court documents leaked in the United States on Tuesday.
The two Hollywood stars split that year, and their divorce proceedings have since bogged down in lengthy legal battles, particularly over custody of their children and the sale of a winery in southern France.
In documents filed Tuesday, Angelina Jolie describes a violent altercation with her ex-husband during a flight from California to France in September 2016. Brad Pitt “choked one of the children and hit another” and “grabbed Jolie in the head and shook her,” before “pinning her against the toilet wall,” where the argument had started, according to the documents, which were cited by several American media outlets, including the New York Times and diversity.
During that argument, the actor, who accused his wife of being “too subservient” to the offspring, poured “beer” on his ex-wife and “beer and red wine on the kids.”
If the actor fight club fights broke out, “one of the children verbally defended” his mother. Brad Pitt then “rushed to his own child,” the documents said, and the actress “grabbed him from behind to stop him.” “The children intervened,” the document says. The actor then “strangled one of the children and punched another in the face”. Some “begged him to stop,” others “cried.”
Following this dispute, investigations conducted by federal authorities resulted in no prosecution. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce just days after that flight. Brad Pitt representatives contacted by AFP had not responded as of Tuesday afternoon. According to these new documents, which were presented to the judiciary, the altercation then influenced the sale of the winery where the couple married and for which they are now torn.
Fight for Miraval Castle
The actress’ defense explains that it was only after failed negotiations with her ex that Angelina Jolie sold her stake in Château Miraval to a Russian oligarch, an estate in the Var region that the couple had been working with a family of French winemakers on since 2011 to make a rosé wine -husband. Reason: Brad Pitt demanded an agreement “that would have contractually prevented him from (…) speaking about the physical and psychological violence inflicted on her and her children”.
In June, the actor accused his ex-wife of having “bad intentions” against him when she sold her shares in the estate to Yuri Shefler. His lawyers cited alleged links between this Russian tycoon and President Vladimir Putin’s entourage, which tarnished his image.
However, the billionaire is a longtime critic of the Putin regime and faced the Russian state in court in 2002.
