The parade, held in a darkened room of the ephemeral Grand Palais, began with a screening of a film starring Kristen Stewart, taken from a broadcast of the film Last year in Mariánské Lázně. Gabrielle Chanel designed Delphine Seyrig’s clothes for this 1961 film directed by Alain Resnais. Short haircut in a tousled boyish style, she wears a black evening dress with a large bow on the chest, then a long silver dress and a tweed mini suit…
We saw those looks again during the parade, for which Kristen Stewart in black boots and a black-and-white miniskirt ensemble among the guests in the front row with top Naomi Campbell, American singers Halsey, Burundian Khadja Nin, the model and Korean-American DJ Soo Joo Park and Charlotte Casiraghi of the Princely Family of Monaco, Chanel Ambassador.
With her androgynous and bohemian look, Kristen Stewart always causes a stir on the red carpet and her looks are dissected by fashion magazines, presenting her as one of the best dressed celebrities. “Of the people around me, she’s the closest thing to Gabrielle Chanel, at least that’s how I imagine her to be. She understands Chanel, her clothes. And with her it becomes even more modern.”emphasizes the artistic director Virginie Viard in the declaration of intent of the parade.
The house has pushed for more diversity: alongside Dutch model Jill Kortleve, star of the parades for several seasons, at least two others are the average height of French women (40-42).
Black and white dominate on the catwalk for a sophisticated look designed by Gabrielle Chanel around the idea of freedom of movement. The Chanel suit, emblem of the brand, is available in all its forms, with skirt, shorts or pants, decorated with sequins, embroidery or feathers.
Bows, boas, high gloves, rhinestone ankle boots, jersey worked like scales, golden dress made of crushed velvet or black side slit: all elements are suitable for this. “The films we’ve seen, the ones that own us and also the ones that we make ourselves, Marienbad, the New Wave, the Gabrielle Chanel look, Karl (Lagerfeld), the night, the feathers, the sequins, heels : I like it when things mix”Details on Virginie Viard.
A few pops of color stand out in this cinematic landscape, like the bright green of a skirt suit with a matching handbag, the pink of a shirt worn under a salmon jumpsuit, or the purple of another suit. A sublime selection of little black dresses closes the show.
Here everything shines, even the socks or stockings that we wear with mini outfits, in black or two-tone shoes – again white and black – with bow straps. Some satin sets, consisting of shorts and a top with a bare back, are reminiscent of negligees. The hairstyles are minimalist and tidy, the short checks are smoothed and the long hair is tied with decorative sticks. The palate is dark, as if stained with red wine.
