Missing California family found dead

The four members of a California family who had been missing for several days were found dead on Wednesday. Surveillance cameras show them being kidnapped by a masked man.

Tragic outcome in California. The four family members who had been missing for several days were found dead on Wednesday evening. Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke confirmed the sad news at a news conference. “Our biggest fear has been confirmed,” he told the media, quoted by USA Today.

Investigations into the troubling case began on Monday when relatives of the victims reported them missing, saying they had been kidnapped against their will. An alleged suspect was arrested on Tuesday and taken into custody. However, he is currently in hospital after attempting suicide following the intervention of the police who arrested him.

However, authorities have not said if it is the masked man, seen in CCTV footage, who threatens the family and forces them into a vehicle. “There are no words to describe the anger I feel for this senseless act,” responded the sheriff, who explained that there was “a special place in hell for this guy.”

An unsolved crime

Authorities have released the names of the missing. They are Jasleen Kaur, 27, Jasdeep Singh, 36, and their child Aroohi Dheri, 8 months, and the baby’s uncle Amandeep Singh, 39. “We don’t have a clear motivation. All we know is that they are missing,” the sheriff commented in a video message posted to Facebook earlier this week. A family member’s vehicle was found burned out Monday night. Because of this, law enforcement determined that the four victims had been kidnapped. Police also discovered that one of the victims’ credit cards had been used at an ATM in a small town in the north-west of the county on Tuesday night.

Still looking for a motive for this crime, the sheriff said it was likely a financial story. Investigators added that the potential suspect, 48-year-old Jesus Manuel Salgado, may not have acted alone. “I have no doubts that at least one other person is involved, but we have no evidence, it’s just circumstances that lead us to believe so,” Sheriff Warnke said. He continued “hoping for answers” as Jesus Manuel Salgado was still in critical condition in hospital as of Wednesday.
