No, Linky will not turn off the hot water this winter

Enedis wanted to reassure consumers after a misunderstanding related to an order to adjust the heating of certain hot water tanks.

Like wildfire on social networks. Yesterday, Wednesday October 5, a decree uncovered by the UFC Que Choisir Association provoked the anger of many consumers across the country.

It all started with the announcement by Enedis (the EDF subsidiary responsible for managing and developing most of France’s electricity distribution network) that the electric balloons for 4.3 million homes would have been launched around midday.

Enedis brings order

On BFMTV this morning, Enedis spokesman came to interrupt not the hot water but the misinterpretation of the announcement. In short, there will be “no hot water shutoff” between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. for off-peak customers.

In fact, and Laurent Méric has said it clearly, the objective will be to balance consumption during these two hours (increasing sharply) by not reactivating the hot water tanks:

“During these meridian hours, the hot water tank will reset and we will simply disable that reset. The water will continue to be hot (…) we can take a shower, use hot water (…) Simple, the water will not be heated between noon and two.”

Hot water: And Linky in all this?

Another clarification was useful in dispelling the rumor that the Linky counter was able to make that cut. The Enedis spokesman recalled that this non-resume was “completely independent” of this counter.

On the other hand, Linky intervenes to maintain all other usages during these two off-peak periods.

Measure valid from October 15th

The measure applies from Saturday, October 15, 2022 and “will save the equivalent of 2.5 GW at 12:30 p.m. and 1 GW at 1:00 p.m.”.

Laurent Méric also specified Linky and the low tariff: “The heating of the water will not start, on the other hand for the use of heating, your oven, your hob, the television, etc. You will continue to have the tariff for the off-peak hours between 12 p.m. and 2 a.m., for people who have it”.
