Gaming News Sony: PS5 games are coming to PC faster!
After spending a long time pondering the future of narrative games within PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, Director of PlayStation Development Houses, takes the floor again to update us on the PS5 games coming to PC.
Towards a shorter exit window
As you probably already know, Sony recently changed its policy regarding the arrival of its exclusive PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 products on computers other than its own. In fact, since the launch and success of Death Stranding on PC, but also of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone, the Japanese company is repeating the operation by bringing its latest flagship productions to the computer. Of late, it’s Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered that’s garnering some attention.
With this initiative, which seems to do more than work, It’s normal to wonder if PlayStation Studios will continue to offer its games on PC, or rather if the launch gaps between the different platforms won’t be further reduced in the future. That’s what Julien Chièze asked Hermen Hulst in a recent interview. Apparently, the director of PlayStation Studios answered yes.
I think it’s really a good thing for teams to see their games released on PC as well (…). There are more players and that helps. I think that in the future we will have at least a year between releasing one of our games on the PlayStation console and then on the PC. Hermann Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios
In other words, From now on, it will take about a year between the launch of a game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and the arrival of the same game on PC. Perhaps that will be the case with God of War: Ragnarok, especially since the first work has already appeared on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
For Hermen Hulst, however, this idea only affects solo games and not service games, since the latter need a gigantic community to survive in the long term. Because of this, multiplayer games are released simultaneously on all media.
These LIVE games are a bit different by nature, as they require a strong community and high engagement from the start, right after the release. So for these types of games we could do simultaneous releases between PC and PlayStation. Herman Hulst
The PC, a necessity according to Hermen Hulst
But ultimately, the most important takeaway is this: For Hermen Hulst, releasing games on PC – in addition to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 – is a great way to increase sales, which makes sense given that it’s reaching a wider audience now reached. These additional sales then allow PlayStation Studios to invest more in even bigger projects.
This allows us to keep investing… Investing even more in projects. Herman Hulst
